Laboratory Of Biomechanics & Biocalorimetry (LOB2)
GOALS:
1. RESEARCH: Create and use advanced laboratory methods for
(a) predictive mechanical and physical evaluation of technologies for protection, repair or replacement of load-bearing tissues and structures. These include implant materials and devices (ranging from joint replacement to tissue engineering scaffolds and constructs), and external devices (e.g. braces and sports shoes).
(b) real-time monitoring and evaluation of cultured cell growth, using isothermal micro-nano calorimetry. Applications include rapid detection and identification of microorganisms in clinical and industrial specimens, evaluation of anti-microbial and anti-tumor agents, evaluation of agents which stimulate cell growth (e.g. lymphocyte response).
2. DEVELOPMENT: Create new or improved technologies for
(a) protection, repair or replacement of load-bearing tissues and structures.
(b) faster, more accurate diagnosis of injury and disease.
3. INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY: Seek patents for LOB-originated technologies.
